The Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment is an agreement that establishes a legal framework for international commerce in a range of high-value capital goods. In countries that have implemented the convention, sellers of covered equipment are able to secure a legally-recognized financial interest in their goods until full payment is made. As a result, financing becomes significantly more secure and less expensive, expanding opportunities for both buyers and sellers. The first fully implemented protocol covers commercial aircraft; two others are in the process of ratification. A fourth protocol has been proposed to cover agricultural, construction and mining machinery. This roundtable will offer CCA members and guests the opportunity to hear details of the commercial aircraft industry’s success with the Cape Town Convention, and learn what interested manufacturers and others need to do to support this expansion of the Convention.
